Studio 55: Impressionist Printmaking

Wednesdays 10:00 am – 1:00 pm

October 18th – December 13th*

Studio 55 is the new community at TMA for adults 55 and older to connect over art and artmaking. This is part of the museum’s participation in the Vitality Arts Project for Art Museums funded by EA Michelson Philanthropy to promote the work of anti-ageism in our community and industry.

Impressionist artists like Camile Pissarro, Mary Cassatt, and Edgar Degas embraced printmaking, seeking to elevate it to high art. Take a look at these artists, whose paintings are on view at the Tampa Museum of Art in Frontiers of Impressionism: Paintings from the Worcester Art Museum with local printmaker and teaching artist Susan Fredricks. While building a community of artists, students will learn new techniques, develop artistic skills, and create their own impressionist-inspired masterpieces.

Josette Urso: Collage to Painting/Minimal to Maximal

Josette Urso: Collage to Painting/Minimal to Maximal

Monday – Friday

Oct. 30 – Nov. 3, 2023

10:00 am – 4:00 pm

This course explores the interrelationship between collage and painting. Collage will be used as a means of sketching and as a springboard for ideas in painting. Work will begin simply becoming progressively more complex as participants push the limits of the mediums and their ideas. Work done in one medium will influence one’s vision in the other, and the collaboration between process and concept will encourage the production of less planned and more unexpected images.

The aim is to refresh the artist’s vision while exploring the painterly possibilities of alternative media. New media spark new ways of thinking and collage is a rich medium providing an infinite range of possibilities.

The class is open to individuals of all levels.
