Studio 55 | Mixed Media Collage | with Susan

Sundays, 1 – 4 pm

Studio 55 is the new community programming at TMA for adults 55 and older to connect over art and artmaking.

Mixed Media Collage is an eight-week course full of artistic experimentation with mixed techniques and embellishment. Using approaches such as drawing, painting, collage, embroidery, and printmaking students will be encouraged to layer approaches in their artwork to grow their tools of expression. This studio course is designed for every skill set from beginner to advanced. Studio sharing, feedback, and class discussion are highly encouraged to share discoveries made through experimentation.

Mixed Media Collage will find inspiration from the show currently on display at TMA, Embellish Me, Works from the Collection of Norma Canelas Roth and William Roth On view February 15, 2024 through July 28, 2024.

Sliding Scale Registration

TIER 2 PRICE 

Consider investing in the TIER 2 price if you:

  • are single and/or without dependents
  • are able to repay your student loans, are in repayment or have paid off your student loans
  • have daily reliable transportation
  • are able to miss work either for sickness or leisure, and are still able to pay next month’s bills
  • travel when needed for an unexpected occasion like a family funeral or emergency

TIER 3 

Consider investing in the TIER 3 price, if you:

  • own the home you live in
  • have investments, retirement accounts or inherited money
  • travel for recreation
  • have access to family money and resources in times of need
  • work part-time or are unemployed by choice, including unemployment due to full-time school in a degree-earning program
  • have a relatively high degree of earning power due to level of education (or gender and racial privilege, class background, etc.)
  • are registering with funds from your work at/with an institution (museum, school, university, etc.)

Cancellation Policy 

All of TMA’s studio courses require a minimum enrollment to run. If a class does not meet a minimum enrolment 3 days before the first day of class it will be canceled and a full refund issued to any enrolled students.

For students that need to cancel their enrollment:

14 days + before the first day of your class—100% refund 

8–13 days before the first day of your class—50% refund 

7 days or less—no refund 

All refunds will be charged a $15 administrative fee.

In this workshop, you will create dry-point prints inspired by textiles and embroidery on view in the coming show Embellish Me: Works from the Collection of Norma Canelas Roth and William Rothopening February 15th, 2024.

This 8-session course will introduce students to new practices in digital artmaking utilizing paid and open-source applications like Procreate, Adobe Fresco, and Sketchbook. Students will take inspiration from the Museum’s ongoing exhibitions with gallery visits to create their own digital works of art.

Studio 55: Impressionist Printmaking

Wednesdays 10:00 am – 1:00 pm

October 18th – December 13th*

Studio 55 is the new community at TMA for adults 55 and older to connect over art and artmaking. This is part of the museum’s participation in the Vitality Arts Project for Art Museums funded by EA Michelson Philanthropy to promote the work of anti-ageism in our community and industry.

Impressionist artists like Camile Pissarro, Mary Cassatt, and Edgar Degas embraced printmaking, seeking to elevate it to high art. Take a look at these artists, whose paintings are on view at the Tampa Museum of Art in Frontiers of Impressionism: Paintings from the Worcester Art Museum with local printmaker and teaching artist Susan Fredricks. While building a community of artists, students will learn new techniques, develop artistic skills, and create their own impressionist-inspired masterpieces.
