Mobility Access

Accessible Entrance

The Museum’s accessible entrance is located at the Vinik Family Education Center entrance on the east side of the building, facing the Glazer Children’s Museum.

A drop-off and pick-up curb on Gasparilla Plaza, between the Tampa Museum of Art and the Glazer Children’s Museum, is available for visitors with mobility needs or using rideshare services. Please note that this drop-off and pick-up curb is not available for parking.

Accessible Parking

The closest accessible parking to the Tampa Museum of Art is on the 4th and 5th floors of the William F. Poe Parking Garage located at 802 N Ashley Drive. Use the elevators at the southeast corner of the guilding, nearest to the Glazer Children’s Museum, for easy access to the ramp and sidewalk. This parking location will help individuals with mobility concerns avoid crossing the railroad tracks at W Gasparilla Plaza.

The William F. Poe Parking Garage offers 17 ADA-accessible parking spaces distributed among all five floors. The garage vehicle height limit of 7 ft. is an appropriate height for most van accessibility.

For additional parking information, visit the Plan Your Visit page.

Wheelchairs

We offer complimentary wheelchairs for visitor use on a first-come, first-served basis. Please speak with a Visitor Experience Representative at one of the Welcome Desks upon arrival.

Elevators and Accessible Routes

All exhibition galleries, classrooms, event spaces, restrooms, and visitor amenities are accessible by elevators and mobility-friendly pathways.

The Museum offers comfortable seating throughout gallery spaces and public areas to support visitors who may need opportunities to rest during their visit. Additionally, lightweight, portable chairs are available in the gallery spaces for any visitor who would like to sit and observe the artwork at their own pace.

Service Animals

Service dogs trained to perform tasks for individuals with disabilities are welcome throughout the Museum in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). We do not allow Emotional Support Animals (ESAs) inside the Museum.

If you are visiting with a service dog, you can use the two public dog parks for small and large dogs located across Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park from the Tampa Museum of Art. These spaces offer opportunities for exercise, relief breaks, and relaxation before or after your visit.

Sensory-Friendly Experiences

The museum is listed as Autism Friendly in the Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (CARD) Autism Friendly Business Directory. Our full and part-time staff has attended training with CARD USF staff to increase awareness of the needs of our visitors on the autism spectrum and to enhance our ability to respond effectively and sensitively to these needs.

The following morning times tend to be quieter and less crowded at the museum: Tuesday through Sunday from 10:00 – 11:00 am and Monday through Wednesday from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm are also less crowded.

We have special hours for those looking to check out the museum with low sensory stimuli and less noise. The last Sunday of each month we open early for Art on the Spectrum.

We are partnered with CARD USF to provide headphones, sunglasses, and sensory toys for visitor use. Just ask the desk attendant for assistance and use. We are also funded through the Autism License Plate Fund and the Autism Services Grants Council.

Temperatures may vary between rooms in the museum. You may want to bring a light sweater.

We have a projection-based exhibition room that we mark on the map for those guests with light sensitivities.
