This contract position works within the Guided and Gallery-Based Learning team, under the supervision of the Community Arts Initiative Program Manager, to facilitate tours and art-making activities within the Community Arts Initiative tour project. The Community Arts Initiative tour project is a one-year, federally funded, partnership program with the Hillsborough County Public Schools. The Museum expects to tour approximately 15,000 students, grades 3-8, in 2024. During each visit, facilitators will be assigned a group of about 15 students to work with for the duration of that group’s tour.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead tour groups and facilitate conversations focused on developing student critical thinking skills. Conversations will use inquiry and object-based facilitation strategies such as Visual Thinking Strategies and the Artful Thinking Routines from Project Zero.
- Lead art making activities designed by the Studio Program Manager.
- Set up stools in galleries in preparation for group discussions.
- Set up classroom following studio best practices as established by the Community and Studio Art Programs Department
- Cleanup/reset classroom for other programs.
- Prepare and organize materials needed for gallery and art making activities.
- Attend trainings in Visual Thinking Strategies, Artful Thinking Routines, Museum safety and security, Museum collections and exhibitions, and Tour Protocols
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma
- One (1) year of customer service experience.
Required Skills & Abilities
- Energetic, outgoing, and friendly personality required.
- Must work enthusiastically, respectfully, and professionally with a diverse group of audiences and possess a passion for helping people discover and explore.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic computer tasks.
- Ability and willingness to accept feedback.
- Experience in art or museum-related field or retail and sales experience is desirable.
- Conversation skills in more than one language is a plus.
- Experience leading a group through a set of instructions to the completion of a task.
- Basic understanding of studio art materials and practices.
Physical Requirements
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Valid Florida Class “E” Driver’s License or equivalent issued by another state by date of application.
- The ability to facilitate tours and direct visitors for a minimum of 4 hours during each shift.
- Occasional lifting of supplies and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear and speak to visitors and give verbal instructions in case of an emergency.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Must pass a level two background check.
Other Job Characteristics
- Ability to follow documented museum and gallery evacuation procedures in case of a threat or disaster.
- Be open to a flexible schedule that may be subject to change depending on business needs.
- Scheduled hours are typically between M-F and 9a-2p, with an average of 175 hours per facilitator for the semester.
- Contracted vendors are paid on a bi-weekly basis with checks for services rendered available one week after the end of the pay period.
Benefits & Compensation
