A Plein Air Meet-Up Group: Creating the New Art of Tampa Bay

A Plein Air Meet-Up Group: Creating the New Art of Tampa Bay

Select Sundays

Get outside and make some art in the landscape of Tampa Bay’s gorgeous scenery in this plein air painting course. Inspired by locales, scenes, and artists from the Poetry in Paint: The Artists of Old Tampa Bay exhibition on view at Tampa Museum of Art, this workshop will meet in one of Tampa’s picturesque parks. Soak in the beauty and inspiration of nature as you create your own contemporary images of Tampa Bay.

This course will meet in a local park and will require moving about the park to find your spot to paint. Bringing a lightweight camping chair, blanket, or other items that make your time in the park more comfortable is encouraged. Please bring a water-bottle for your paints.

The November Plein Air Meetup is at Lake Park in Lutz

There is a $2.00 fee per car for parking. There is a drive-through pay station at the entrance and you must pay with a card.

We will be meeting at the entrance to the Jogging Trail. When you enter the park, follow the arrows to get to the Jogging Trail parking lot.  I’ll be there early at one of the covered picnic tables in a bright orange Tampa Museum of Art apron and white Tampa Museum of Art hat.

I will be bringing all of the art supplies, but I strongly recommend you bring drinking water, bug spray, and sun protection. The watercolor boards I am providing are meant to be used while standing, but if you prefer to sit bring a portable chair. There are picnic tables in the area we’ll be painting in but there’s no guarantee they’ll be available in a spot where you want to paint.

Feel free to bring your preferred brushes, paints, or paper. If you have preferred paper, please cut it down to 5 x 7 inch sheets before class.
