CITY: A Celebration of Style with Purpose

Fashion +
Art +
Culture

CITY is one of the Tampa Museum of Art’s most anticipated annual events, bringing together fashion, art, and culture in a dynamic celebration that supports the Museum’s exhibitions and educational programs.

Launched in 2010 following the opening of the Museum’s current downtown building, CITY was inspired by the opportunity to activate a bold new space in the heart of Tampa. Museum board member Carrie Brown envisioned an event that would reflect the city’s energy while elevating the Museum’s role as a cultural destination.

From the beginning, CITY has blended creativity and style, evolving from runway presentations by luxury retailers into immersive experiences featuring internationally recognized designers. Over the years, the event has showcased celebrated names such as Marc Bouwer, Angel Sanchez, Carolina Herrera, and Balmain, while also connecting to major exhibitions at the Museum.

These moments have included a 2016 retrospective of Norma Kamali’s influential designs and a 2017 presentation inspired by nightlife icon Susanne Bartsch, featuring bold works by designers such as Jean Paul Gaultier and Zaldy.

Today, CITY continues to grow as a platform for artistic expression, creative collaboration, and community engagement. It stands as a signature fundraising event that not only highlights global design talent but also strengthens the Museum’s ability to serve Tampa Bay through art, education, and shared cultural experiences.

Over the years, CITY has welcomed an impressive roster of internationally recognized designers, each bringing a distinct perspective to the intersection of fashion and art. These collaborations have elevated the event into a signature cultural experience in Tampa Bay.

Featured designers have included Marc Bouwer, Angel Sanchez, Bibhu Mohapatra, Silvia Tcherassi, Naeem Khan, Carolina Herrera, and Balmain, among others.

Additional presentations have highlighted visionary creators such as Norma Kamali, Jean Paul Gaultier, and Zaldy, often in dialogue with major exhibitions at the Tampa Museum of Art.

Each year builds on this legacy, introducing new creative voices while continuing to position CITY as a platform for bold design, artistic expression, and cultural exchange.
