The Connections Program at the Tampa Museum of Art 

The Connections Program is an art-viewing and discussion program that focuses on fostering emotional wellness, community engagement, self-expression, and self-reflection. Connections encourages participants to look deeper into the Tampa Museum of Art’s exhibitions, make personal connections with the artwork, and gain new perspectives. The program strives to create a welcoming environment for all participants. 

A wide variety of audiences find the Connections Program to be beneficial. Past participants of the Connections Program include veterans, active-duty military, adults in substance use recovery and behavioral health care, LGBTQ+ support groups, assisted living facilities, and memory care facilities. The Connections Program offers multiple participation formats, including in-person and virtual options.

Art-Therapy-Informed Program Policies

In-Person Group Sessions

Private Connections sessions held in-person at the Tampa Museum of Art may be scheduled for groups of 5-16 people. Sessions may include seated art discussions, walking discussions, and/or interactive gallery activities based on the needs and interests of your group. Advanced registration at least 3 weeks in advance is required.  

Virtual Private Group Sessions 

Private Connections sessions held on Zoom may be scheduled with advanced with at least 3 weeks notice. Participants are shown images of artwork on display at the Tampa Museum of Art and participate in a facilitated discussion about the artwork. 

Open Virtual Sessions  

Want a break from your day to de-stress and enjoy artwork? The Connections Open Virtual Session is an art-viewing and discussion program focused on mental well-being and stress reduction. Join us on Zoom for an hour-long experience which includes:  

  • A relaxation exercise   
  • A question of the day  
  • A facilitated discussion about one piece of artwork that is currently on display at the Tampa Museum of Art
