Gallery Conversation: Celeste Davis on Carrie Mae Weems

October 23, 2022 @ 1:00 pm - 1:30 pm

Join us for a special gallery talk focused on Carrie Mae Weems on the final day of the exhibition Dawoud Bey & Carrie Mae Weems: In Dialogue. Celeste Davis will share her insights and observations on Weems’ art, as well as discuss the significance of her art today.

Celeste Davis has spent her career in arts, culture, and education. Davis joins the City of St. Petersburg as the Director of Arts, Culture and Tourism, after serving as Executive Director of Tampa Bay Businesses for Culture & the Arts. She is a graduate of Spelman College and holds a Master of Fine Arts from The George Washington University. Davis’ community ties led her to serve as Community Liaison for Fairgrounds and Program Director and Curator for the Dr. Carter G. Woodson African American Museum. Davis continued her relationship with the museum as the founder, producer, and host of Curious Collector | Conversation Café, a monthly art discussion with national appeal. Curious Collector discussions center around the presence of African Americans in the arts.

This program is offered free with regular gallery admission.
