Are you an artist in the Tampa Bay area who wants to meet and discuss the work of other local artists? Are your artistic intentions the same as what is perceived in your work? Are you looking for ideas about how your work can improve? Join us at 6:00p on Wednesday, September 16 for the TMA TMI Virtual Crit Group, the first in a series of bi-weekly virtual group critiques presented by the Tampa Museum of Art over Zoom.
As a group of artists we will spend each session of TMA TMI looking at and discussing works of art from each participant. Discussions will focus on our observations and interpretations of each other’s work, what we all think is working in each piece, constructive comments about what aspects of your work could benefit from a different approach in technique or thought, and valuable takeaways that you can use in your continuing development as an artist.
For this first session, artists are asked to prepare photos of one work of art that they think best represents their overall artistic practice right now. To help those who have never experienced a group critique, or if it’s been a while since you participated in one, everyone will also receive a printable handout of possible questions that you can apply to any work of art we discuss this week. The conversation will be moderated by artist and Tampa Museum of Art Studio Programs Coordinator Anthony Record.
You can prepare as many photos of details as you wish, but be sure to have one high quality photo of the overall piece as the main photo. Email your photos to firstname.lastname@example.org before the session.
As this is an exercise in deep looking and thinking, space is limited and pre-registration is required. All media are welcome and encouraged.
