“Francis Schwartz Soundstitching” Performed by: Cassia Kite & Homegrown New Music Ensemble

January 23, 2022 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Join us virtually on our Youtube channel for the peremiere of a collaborative performance presentation featuring Skyway 20/21 artist Cassia Kite and Homegrown New Music Ensemble.

Skyway is triennial celebration of artistic practices in the Tampa Bay region. Working together, curators from four different institutions including the Tampa Museum of Art, highlight the diversity of art being created in the Central Florida region.

Portraiture represents a new direction in Cassia Kite’s “soundstitching” art, in which she translates colorful images into musical compositions that may be performed by a musician or performing artist. In “Francis Schwartz Soundstitching,” Kite depicts Francis Schwartz, the avant-garde composer known for his interactive performances. Schwartz currently resides in Sarasota and is a source of inspiration for Kite. In this work, similar to her other soundstitching projects, Kite translates the composer’s likeness into a score using color, with each color thread representing a musical note.

This collaborative performance featuring Homegrown New Music Ensemble and Kite occurred during the final month that Skyway 20/21 was on view at the Tampa Museum of Art.
