Under direct supervision, support the preparation of exhibitions, installations, and related programs.


  • Under direct supervision:
  • Check the condition of the galleries and perform gallery maintenance; i.e., dust, sweep, etc…as according to best Museum practices
  • Assist in the preparation, installation, and deinstallation of exhibitions
  • Locate, pull objects for examination and/or exhibition; and then return objects to storage when directed
  • Mat and frame works on paper
  • Install audio/visual equipment for new media displays, interpretive material, etc…
  • Install and design gallery graphics such as signs, labels, and text and photo panels
  • Take installation photography and edit raw files
  • Perform carpentry, patchwork of drywall, and painting work as required
  • Construct and prepare wooden platforms, pedestals, basic mounts, and other museum related fabrications
  • Set and maintain lighting in galleries to assure exhibitions are properly lit according to best Museum practices
  • Assist with maintaining an inventory of preparation supplies such as framing items, paint, carpentry items and packing materials
  • Load and unload fine art shipments
  • Occasionally preform local pick-ups and returns of artworks and supplies
  • Receive, unpack, inspect, and pack works of art
  • Organize and maintain all exhibitions and transport furniture including pedestals, vitrines and crates
  • Maintain all work areas in a clean safe manner


  • Application of good knowledge of museum properties and/or handling of artifacts methods and procedures.
  • Application of good knowledge in the methods and procedures used in the matting and framing of works of art.
  • Application of good knowledge of carpentry, construction and design of exhibits methods and procedures.
  • Application of good knowledge of utilization and maintenance of power and hand tools, gantries, lifts (fork, scissor, genie, etc…), pallet jacks, etc…
  • Ability to drive a box truck (CDL license not required)
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs
  • Application of good knowledge of Abode Creative Suite preferred.
  • Understand and be familiar with federal, state, and city laws, rules, regulations, related to transportation, preservation and display of artifacts, state and local labor and occupational safety and health rules and regulations.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, officials, vendors, museums, foundations and the public.
  • Clear, concise oral and written communication to prepare and present reports to management.
  • Valid Florida driver’s license


  • Frequent and prolonged periods of standing, sitting, bending, stooping, reaching; stepping on step stools/ladders; working at heights on ladders and lifts; pushing and pulling shipping/packing crates; the carrying of materials, supplies and art objects during the setting up and tearing down of exhibitions or while preparing artwork for storage or shipping.
  • Occasional exposure to chemicals and fumes common to the matting and framing of artwork and those utilized in creating exhibits and displays.



Education and Experience: A Bachelor’s degree or equivalency, and two (2) years of museum experience handling art and artifacts, including one (1) year of experience in the construction and preparation of pedestals, platforms, basic cavity packs/crates, and other museum related fabrications.
