Summer/ Fall Adult Studio 2017

Join us at our Museum and the The Roberta M. Golding Visual Art Center at the Bryan Glazer Family Jewish Community Center for Summer & Fall adult studio courses inspired by our special exhibitions! Experience our engaging small classes taught by professional teachers and active artists in the Tampa Bay community. Our adult courses, ages 14 and up, are constructed for every skill level from beginning to advanced. Registration now open! Tampa Museum of Art studio courses are presented in partnership with Hillsborough County and the City of Tampa.

Fringe/ Urban Art Workshops

Zine Workshop

July 15, 10a-2p, @JCC Multi Media room.
Zines are an underground medium that allows everyone to self-publish their art, ideas and stories. Learn drawing and printmaking techniques while creating personalize zines, from start to finish. Instructed by artist and educator Evan Neidich.

Create a Skate Deck Workshop

Skate decks are quickly becoming an edgy canvas for artists that don’t typically follow the norm. Join working artist Evan Neidich in this fun and active course that will leave you with a uniquely designed deck. It’s a  piece of art and a new ride!

Lit-up, Motorized Sculpture!

Local artist and educator, Lenny Cabanero-Harvey, leads this whirlwind of sculptural creation! Students will learn how to construct moving, blinking, and whirring 3D pieces. This engaging course will produce creations as active as the artists who made them.

Mandala Watercolor & Meditation

Artist Liz Halloran will lead this fun watercolor workshop with a twist. Learn how to create mandala with guided visualization, intuitive drawing and painting techniques.  Explore your creativity, release stress, and make paintings representative of your current journey!

Discovering Creative Writing

Sketchbooks for the sake of Art

Students of this course will create specialized visionary journals with artist, Teri Navajo. Bind artistic prompt pages into self-designed sketchbooks to take home. Each journal will provide creative inspiration from cover to cover.

Basics of Calligraphy Workshop

In this beginner workshop with Liz Halloran, students learn classical pointed pen calligraphy. This course aims to develop letter formation skills using historically significant alphabets and modern lettering techniques.  Students will become proficient in the art of calligraphy and develop personal lettering styles.

Exploring Mixed Media

How has imagery in artwork changed and/or stayed the same during different art movements?  How have those changes affected the media artists use? Students will explore these questions in this workshop. They will then create animal-themed art pieces with artist and educator Olivia Thornton including painting and assemblage.

Artist and educator Perry Bentley introduces students to the basics of oil painting. as well as skills to develop successful composition. The Museum’s exhibition, Photorealism: 50 Years of Hyperrealistic Painting, inspire a focus on capturing objects with detailed realism.

Landscape Painting & Printmaking

The beautiful environment of Florida serves as inspiration for this multi-faceted creative course! Artist and educator, Jamie Perkins guides students in an artistic adventure covering a variety of painting and printmaking techniques.

Classic Life Drawing

Join artist and educator Earl Spied for a classic life drawing course. Students can attend all or a few of the sessions in the series. Sign up for the opportunity to learn gestural and structural approaches to the human form with a live model. Students must be 18+.
